She felt his hands move to the back of her head. She pulled away from him again, saying, “Nope.” His hands retreated as she began again. She knew what he wanted. He wanted her to go deeper, and that was already her plan.
Genevieve raised her hand and caught Maren’s eye.
She crossed to the older woman with her professional face on.
The Black man she’d noticed earlier, Octavious, was seated, his massive cock hard, extending past his navel. Dear god, she thought. That is beautiful.
She tried to keep her attention focused on Genevieve, who asked her to pass her a bowl full of condoms and lube. She did as she was asked and then the older woman placed an order for drinks.
“Of course, ma’am,” Maren said and walked away with her composure intact.
Cody was not at the bar. She cursed under her breath. He was probably in the stairwell smoking a joint.
She made the drinks herself. They weren’t complicated.
She steadied the tray and walked back toward the couch, listening to the symphony of moans coming from the guests.
As she approached, her legs went weak.
Octavious was behind the smaller Asian man with his cock buried deep inside him. The man’s back arched, and his hands braced against the ottoman. The sounds coming out of him were pure pleasure.
God, that must hurt. She’d be terrified of something that size inside her pussy, much less her ass. Her cheeks involuntarily clenched at the thought. But she couldn’t look away. The rhythm between them, the way the Asian man pushed back to meet each thrust, the sight of Octavious’s greased shaft appearing and disappearing. It was hypnotic.
Why was watching two men together so arousing? She had no answer, only the heat spreading through her and the wetness growing below.
She forced herself to move, closing the distance to them. Genevieve looked pleased as she spread the Asian man’s ass cheeks, applying more lube.
Maren needed to collect herself and headed back to the kitchen.
Chef André was managing three things at once and didn’t look up. She stood by the pass, taking long, deep breaths.
“You seen Eli?”
Chef André tilted his head toward the service corridor. “He’s on the phone with his girlfriend.”
The words arrived like a step missing at the bottom of a staircase.
Girlfriend. Fuck.
She didn’t know. A year of shifts, a year of flirting, a year of interpreting what every look he had given her meant. She had never once heard any mention of a girlfriend. Or had she been too busy constructing her own one-sided narrative?
She stared at the stainless steel counter, her pulse increasing. She didn’t want to be in there any longer, but she also didn’t want to be in the main room. She didn’t want to be in this building. She wanted to be in her apartment with her stereo on and her cat cuddled up in her lap.
She picked up her tray and went back out.
The bar was still empty.
That, for some reason, was the thing that tipped her from disappointed to pissed off.
She spotted the other waitress, Dani, near the hallway, tray down, watching the room.
“I need five minutes,” Maren said. “Can you cover the room?”
Dani glanced around. “Yeah. I’m good.” A pause. “This is like, insane… right?”
“Yeah,” Maren answered.
Dani dropped her voice and leaned in with the expression of someone confessing to a priest. “It’s kind of making me hot though. Is it turning you on too?”
Maren didn’t answer. She had no answer for it that didn’t implicate herself.
She was already turning away when Dani said, “Hey, if you see Cody, tell him to get his sorry ass back to the bar. I’m tired of doing his job and mine.”
She nodded and kept walking.
Maren walked down the hallway, needing to find a quiet place. The restroom where she’d changed earlier, that would work. She could put the toilet seat down, sit for five minutes, and breathe without any distractions.
She tried the door.
Locked.
Fuck.
She tried the next door.
A home gym. Mirrors on one wall, free weights arranged by size with a bench press in the corner. And sitting on a weight bench with his bow tie loose, hanging over his bare chest was Cody, holding a joint between two fingers.
He looked up through half-lidded eyes and grinned.
Maren crossed the room and planted her hands on her hips. “Dani and I have been making our own drinks because you’re in here slacking off.”
Cody stared at her for a beat and started to giggle. She wanted to strangle him.
“Are you being serious right now?”
He stood, mimicking her stance with his hands on his hips and head cocked. In a falsetto, he said, “Are you being serious right now? Why are you in here slacking off?”
Heat crawled up her neck. But then the absurdity of it hit her, and she laughed despite herself. He was doing a decent impression of her.
Her gaze dropped to the joint in his hand. Something in her relaxed, and before she could stop herself, she said, “Give that to me.”
Cody’s eyebrows shot up. “Okay, babe.”
“I’m not your fucking babe.”
She snatched the joint from him and brought it to her lips. The smoke hit her throat like sandpaper, and she doubled over coughing.
Cody snorted. “Damn, don’t you know how to smoke?”
“No.” She wheezed. “Actually, I don’t.”
He took the joint back, holding it up between them. “Don’t suck it like a straw. Just pull a little into your mouth, then breathe it in. Hold it for a second. Then let it out.”
She tried again. This time, the burn was less violent, and she managed to hold it before exhaling in a thin stream. She still coughed, but not as badly.
“I don’t feel anything.”
“Wait.”
She took another drag. Longer this time. Deeper.
Cody whistled low. “Damn, girl. You’re just jumping in with both feet.”
She took another drag.
“That shit out there is like crazy,” he said, taking the joint from her. “I ain’t never seen anything like it.”
Suddenly, images popped into her head. Octavious pounding into the Asian man while Genevieve spread his cheeks, Graham’s head between the barista’s legs, the barista’s flushed face. And underneath it, the sharp sting of finding out Eli had a girlfriend. The tingle started somewhere low in her stomach. Was it the pot? The disappointment? The memory of Cody’s erection pressing against her ass when she’d squeezed past him at the bar?
She didn’t know. Didn’t care.
She reached out and put a hand on his crotch.
Cody froze. His mouth fell open. “HELLO.”
He immediately began to harden under her palm. He stood there like a dog that had finally caught a squirrel and had no idea what to do with it.
Maren dropped to her knees.
